Techniques to Manage Small Pupil During Phacoemulsification and IOL Implantation

چکیده
by pseudoexfoliation syndrome, uveitis, posterior synechiae, trauma or previous intraocular surgery . A significant number of patients who present for phacoemulsification cataract surgery have pupils that do not respond adequately despite several pharmacological attempts with different mydriatic agents. Inadequate pupil dilation can decrease visualization during all stages of the phacoemulsification including capsulorhexis, hydrodissection, lens nucleus fragmentation and IOL insertion. This compromises the surgery and increases the risk for complications.

Pupil Dilation with Intracameral Epinephrine Hydrochloride during Phacoemulsification and Intraocular Lens Implantation
Objective. To investigate mydriatic effect of intracamerally injected epinephrine hydrochloride during phacoemulsification and intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. Methods. Eighteen cataract patients for bilateral phacoemulsification were enrolled. To dilate pupil, one eye was randomly selected to receive intracamerally 1 mL epinephrine hydrochloride 0.001% for 1 minute after corneal incision (...

BACKGROUND To eliminate complications of peribulbar and retrobulbar anesthesia and to achieve efficacy and safety for topical anesthesia with cataract surgery. METHODS We performed clear corneal phacoemulsification with foldable intraocular lens (IOL) implantation under topical anesthesia using preservative-free 2% lidocaine drops, without intracameral anesthetic supplementation. The exclusio...
متن کامل[Evolution of cataract surgery: smaller incision--less complications].
BACKGROUND/AIM Cataract surgery has become one of the safest procedures in medicine thanks to advances in technology and surgical techniques. Although minimal, we still witness different complications. The aim of this study was to compare visual outcome and complication rate in different techniques of cataract surgery, ie in cataract surgeries with various corneal incision width. METHODS The ...

The increased acceptance of topical anesthesia, phacoemulsification and foldable intraocular lenses (IOLs), have advanced the techniques of microincision clear corneal cataract surgery.1 Operating through these small (less than 3.0 mm), corneal incisions have placed new demands on surgeons to effectively and safely remove the cataract and implant the IOL without increasing the risk of corneal, ...

PURPOSE To evaluate pupil dilation with intra-cameral injection of preservative-free lidocaine 1% (ICL) versus topical eye midriatics during phacoemulsification. METHODS This case-control study included 40 patients with similar bilateral senile cataract scheduled for phacoemulsification and intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. patient's first eye received topical midriatic eye drops as contro...
